My name is Cari Garcia and I’m the person behind the food blog FatgirlHedonist.com and the podcast Cooking In Spanglish. I was born and raised in Hialeah, FL (a suburb of Miami, FL) . I’m a proud Latina and the daughter of immigrants. I’m also a licensed clinical social worker and single mom to a very rambunctious child.
I grew up surrounded by food. My father was a chef in Cuba and he taught my mother how to cook who in turn gave me my foundation and love of food. I went on to complete a culinary program in high school that made my love of food blossom, but my career went in a very different direction.
So much of every family’s culture and heritage is passed down through the food we consume. Food is a common denominator, it’s what unites us all. From the way the food is prepared, to how its consumed and even when its customary to eat it.
The Cooking In Spanglish podcast explores the intersection of food, culture and heritage. How we pass down those traditions and how we keep them alive for future generations.
